These are the same as the diecast Cars we already have just with lenticular eyes. In fact almost all of them are re-releases. The only exception are the chase Cars which are not lenticular. The first chase Car is saluting Sarge. To this point, Disney hasn't released much information about Cars 2 other than concept art, a poster, a synopsis and a trailer. They haven't released any information on the toy line for the movie, and probably won't until Toy Fair in February. Yet we are seeing sellers on eBay offering diecast of characters we either know are in the movie based on the trailer, or we presume are from the movie because they have not appeared in the first movie or any of the Cars shorts. So how are these sellers getting this information? Illegally. These sellers are based in Hong Kong. Most toys in the US are produced overseas in factories in Asia. The toys have no packaging and will not be available in the US for several months. These toys that are being sold are either prototypes or early production runs or test runs, if you will. They are also most likely stolen. They could even have been produced using the existing molds after hours when the factory is closed or is supposed to be shut down. Buy these at your own risk. The bigger question is, why hasn't Mattel or Disney shut this down yet? I posted a link last week to a story on another site of Cars 2 diecast that appeared on eBay and were quickly removed. They were removed because Disney's or Mattel's lawyers most likely contacted eBay and had them remove the listings. So why are these still popping up, with high-res product shots taken from multiple angles no less? I don't have an answer, but I will gladly take the information. I have been amazed at the number and variety of diecast we have seen so far. And every year since the Cars line started, there has been a packaging change. This is the first year that it has not happened yet. It could be because the diecast line has fragmented so much. But it's more likely that it's because a certain movie sequel is right around the corner. Cars 2 is set to be released in June 2011. And you can bet that Cars 2 diecast will be out by then, either in the summer of next year or more likely the Spring. I have found the Heavy Metal Mater 4 pack at Target, and for $30, it is not worth it. Here you are getting 2 Cars and 2 pittys for $30. Those are normally $5 for each single and 2 pittys. So that would come to $15, half the price. If we say Mater is a mega size, it would be $18, at most if you pay $8 for him, which is high. Any way you cut it, $30 is way overpriced. So wait for it to go on clearance, or buy the singles. The only negative is that the 4 pack is the only way you can currently get Mater. Lots of great information. I stumbled upon it after I bought few cars for my 3-year-old just recently, and wanted to see what other characters available, and oh man, was I surprised! It looks like almost every character was released as a diecast! I'm not really a toy collector, but I collect handbuilt car models, and 1/18 diecast (mostly BMW replicas). But after seeing these little cars I decided to get few of them. And thus I have a question: it looks like there are several "waves" these cars were released - supercharged, original, etc. Is there any difference as far as the cars themselves? I mean, will Filmore from original release be any different from Filmore in Supercharged series, or is it just the packaging? I realize the lenticular versions would be different, but what about the regular ones? Also, is a list or cars with numbers and pictures? It is clear that he is supposed to be there because the composition of balance in the poster is off without him opposite Lizzie. Why was he removed from the poster, anyone know?
